If you want to study in US as an undergraduate, you will need to take TOEFL, SAT reasoning test and SAT subject tests in addition to your matriculation exam result.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

Brief intro of TOEFL

TOEFL is a requirement for every international student whose native language is not English. A Myanmar student must take TOEFL exam if he/she wants to study in US.

TOEFL exam tests your ability of reading, listening, writing skills in English. There are three kinds of TOEFL exam.  Paper-based and Internet-based exams are available in Myanmar. Many students take Paper-based exam.

Most colleges require 550 or over as a minimum requirement; however, 600 or over is preferable for highly selective colleges and universities. As scores are varied with the schools, you should check the minimum requirement for your favorite schools at school’s website or catalogs.

SAT Reasoning test (also known as SAT I or New SAT)

This tests your critical reasoning skills, writing skills and mathematical skills. Critical reasoning and writing are English sections in which CR tests how good is your vocabulary and reasoning skills. Writing sections test how much you know about grammar and how can you express your ideas by writing an effective essay. Mathematics section is a bit easy for most Myanmar students if you know and do well throughout your high school math; however, you have to calculate and guess a problem in less than a minute or 30 seconds.

English sections (CR and Writing section) are much more difficult than TOEFL. You have to work harder.
